Great food, but most of the staff were a little on the ride side. The ice cream drinks at the bar were delicious, but at $10 a drink, I think we could have passed on them...

Finest restaurant in the area. Excellent service. Great food options. Prime rib well above average and lot of size options. Specials nightly. Prices right in line. A favorite place to go.

We are respectful and visit on non busy nights. Therefore why are most of the staff here usually so crabby?

Good quality food. Great top rail selection. Older waitress was impolite , rudely informing me that she would take my order after the lady, one of my friends. Her assumption that we needed her correction, in matters of etiquette put us both off. Were it not for her I would have had a better time as the food was great.

Friendly staff. Great service. Tuna and scallop apps were very good. But a huge disappoint on the blue cheese stuffed tenderloin. I had med/rare. Husband had medium. On our first bite, we glanced at each other in disappointment. Plates were very hot. Blue cheese was hot. Stakes were cold. No flavor to the steaks. No nice caramelization. No juiciness. Certainly not just recently prepared for us. Then we figured it out. Must have been leftovers from the lions club party in the other room. I asked our server about the carrot cake. She said "well I don't know...its carrot cake." Really?

My husband loves to eat at restaurants on the water when we're in the northwoods (when we're not enjoying food on the grill at the cabin) but even he is convinced that the Golden Pines is the place to go. For walleye lovers, there is nothing like their almond crusted, pan-fried creation, and for those like me who aren't fans, the menu is extensive and delectable. The ambiance, is delightful, especially the log dining room. I tried Coquille Saint Jacque last Friday and not only was it delicious, but the plate was a thing of beauty. It is a gem in the northwoods, with consistently outstanding and friendly service.

Nice cabin/northwoods theme. Bar looked nice. We dined on German night. The hostess was less then welcoming as we waited 5 minutes to be greeted on a slow night. When I asked her about the obviously historic location she failed to explain any of the buildings history or even show any care that I obviously wanted to know more about the place. News alert!!! The days of charging extra for blue cheese dressing are over!!! Serious fail and should have sent up a red flag immediatly. It's not like blue cheese is foi gra. We ordered all three specials. The pork schank, rouladen, and pork schnetizel. It was all just okay. The Schnetizel was a bit small but was well breaded and the gravy was fantastic. The schank was tender, rich, and well cooked. It melted in the mouth and was the best item by far. The Rouladen was a fail too!!!! It was cleary overcooked and was mealy and dry in texture. It was like a bad pot roast. I think they used round steak instead of flank steak. It showed in this low quality option. The red cabbage was undercooked and less than flavorful. The kraut was ok but some said not sour enough. The spatzel in gravy were ok too but mine were cold. Desert was good as both Carrot Cake and Marscopone cheese cake. Waitress service was fine but uninspired. Not sure if we just had an off meal but this place kinds felt like it was a blue hair haven and a bit cheap in providing high quality produce. Maybe I'm wrong but I'm not sure I'll go back to try it again as all the food was just average.

Pleasantly surprised. Great dinner at comfortable price.... Teddy the barkeep just needs nice a little course in smiling and welcoming customers

A gem in the North woods! We rolled in pretty late for apps and drinks, and the service was very accomodating. We enjoyed some St. Germaine martinis and VERY reasonably priced wines by the glass. The scallop appetizer was to die for. Creamy lemony sauce with plump fresh scallops. I heard nothing but yummy noises for the tuna app as well. Crab cakes were good - not as spectacular as tuna and scallops. Soup was also excellent - piping hot and perfectly seasoned. The dining room is perfectly outdated and truly sets the atmosphere. You'll feel cozy and satieted here for sure.

Not sure we want to try again. Drinks were nice , and reasonable. Had steak and prime rib at our table of five. Our food was barely warm, in fact my frozen asparagus in my extra crab oscar(canned and fishy) was still partly frozen. No juices on anyones plates from fresh cut prime rib. Perfectly squared edges on the meat as if pre sliced and packaged. No smell of prime meat or steaks inside or out of the restaurant. Our smokers noticed that. when mentioning the cold food our waitress said the cook had the door open and should she reheat. How do you reheat prime rib and keep it the same doneness. Noticed on other reviews that prior to 2012 they were really great reviews so what happened. New owners or old ones that just don't care anymore. Cute place though and would stop for drinks again.

Beautiful relaxing atmosphere for dinner fireside during first snow of season. Great history and building. Wait staff very attentive. Ahi was cooked to perfection, but not much flavor- prime rib was perfect, soup homemade. Godiva Chocolate martini for dessert ended it perfectly. Love "off season" here!

Even if you're only heading through St. Germain for one evening, this is the place you should eat. I've never had a bad or even mediocre meal here. The chef is fanastic so if there is a special, trust and order it... especially the soups. Their side salad with dinner is one of the best I've ever had and I love their ranch dressing. And if you have the chance go here on German night, you won't be disappointed... get the spaetzle. The steaks are a-mazing having such flavor. And for your potato, avoid the standards and try pinecones or parmesan potatoes... yummy and unique to this place alone. (don't worry they aren't REALLY pinecones!) The service is fantastic and Teddy the bartender is one of the best around. Try a Teddy Rose! P.S. The wheelchair access is in the back.

Do not go to this place. As good as the food is the owner needs an attitude adjustment. She is a drunk and just doesn't appreciate her customers. She asked a group of 8 to leave because they were enjoying after dinner drinks by the fireplace and people were waiting for those tables. She just doesn't care.My advice is go to other restaurants in the area and spend your money where you are treated with respect .DONT GO TO THE GOLDEN PINES.

If you're looking for store bought frozen chicken patties, then you've come to the right place. Their Chicken Oscar tasted like it was a TV dinner. They charged $17+ for this subpar dinner. I do not recommend this place, especially if you have children, they're not tonice to them!

We were real excited to arrive at Golden Pines for a nice evening, BUT First of all we were greeted by the hostess, which we found out to be the owner smoking a cigarette out on the front steps of her business. We went inside and stopped at the bar for a drink. The bartender stood with his arms folded and had no personality at all. As he was mixing drinks we had time to observe him. He would take dirty glasses off the bar and with the same hands, (without washing them) proceed to take fruit and olives for the next drinks out of the containers without even washing his hands. Very unsanitary I would say!! We had the short, overweight gal as our waitress, who never smiled. It almost seemed like she just didn't want to be there. Any time we would ask her for something, she always shrugged like we were asking too much of her. The food was only lukewarm. We were very disappointed with the service and the food quality. What a shame. :(

They have Rombauer Chardonnay on the wine list by the glass. That's a huge thumbs up. Unless you are at a wine bar, it's fairly hard to get a nice glass of wine without getting a whole bottle. Overall everyone enjoyed their dinner, the setting was very "up north." Both service and air temps were a little cooler than we like.

Great food! Love this place! However, the owner/manager yelled at the poor server girl in front of everyone, and it was awkward...we thought she was doing a good job :-/

We love this place! Every time we heard "up north", we at least make one night to eat hear, Food is great, gives it the real North woods supper club feel. Prices are great, nice and friendly staff. We love it there in the winter when they have the fireplaces crackling (you HAVE to experience that!) It is a bit of heaven!

This place is a one of the Gems of the Northwoods! We have enjoyed visiting them several times during our NW stay. The gals that wait the tables are the best -- friendly and know their stuff -- the bar folks are a bit snobby and seem to love the *locals* -- and it's *kind* of obvious -- just sayin'. The prime rib is to die for ... (hope I don't!!!) ... and basically everything else we tried there so far, has been top notch. If you are near that area in the NW, you must visit this place!

Golden Pines serves traditional northwoods Wisconsin supper club meals, with a side focus on various German schnitzels. It always is a very good meal that we enjoy, never a great meal but then again that is what one can expect with a supper club menu. Service is very good.

Old log cabin restaurant that is a step above the more casual places you will usually encounter up North. Ted behind the bar is a true professional, and Sharon & Chuck run the place with passion. The food would be on par with that of any big city, especially the steaks and the schnitzel with spaetzle. Try the "pine-cones", mashed potatoes spun in a skillet to create a crispy brown exterior. YUM! Price Range is including drinks- are there any non-drinkers in the North-woods?

The place has been there for many years. I see why. The place is very cute and classy. The red meat is excellent. They have nice choices of sides to choose from for your red meat. The only thing that was a little bit not expected (that's bad) is the beer cheese soup. The beer cheese soup was not so good. To beery, sorta cheesy. Then there's the hostess. ONE OF THE RUDEST PEOPLE I'VE EVER MET. Very bitchy personality. Sorry to be rude to the beer cheese soup and the hostess. But besides that, the place is excellent. Good food! Good atmosphere! Good job! Sides for red meat: pastas, rices, potatoes, salad, or soup (beer cheese soup)

Always a great meal at Golden Pines! Good food, nice atmosphere, friendly staff. Typical north woods supper club fare. Great steaks, good seafood (try the almond encrusted walleye), and good dessert. We have been here lots of times over the years and always have a great meal.

Have been coming here every summer for years and always looked forward to it. Sadly, I don't think we will be back. When we arrived (just before 5, no less) the hostess who greeted us was just rude. Basically, although the place was nearly empty (and did NOT fill up while we were there), we were chided for not having a reservation, which we didn't know we needed ( we never have in the past). When we offered to leave, we were told we could stay but had to be done within an hour and a half - again, either tell us the place was full (which it was not) or seat us graciously. The hostess was quite friendly with others (regulars?). We obviously weren't regulars and as such were not welcome. When we were seated, we received our glasses of water with no greeting. Our waitress appeared to be very put out that she had to serve our table - even our teenaged son noticed and wondered what was wrong. Food this year was decent, but not worth our bill. My mashed potatoes were of the powdered variety. Fish was good; pork shank was tasty but barely warm. Fried chicken was ok...small pieces and again barely warm. Service was mediocre at best. We all felt very unwelcome he entire time we were there. I have had friendlier service from the workers at Culver's (not a slam to Culvers...love their food and don't have to spend an arm and a leg lol). Looks like we will just have to find a new annual spot. Any recommendations?
